LOVE, LIGHTS & GLITTERING PRIZESBrand new album from D.C. available to buy now.
Following the release of his third album (In Time, Where We Stand), D.C. has been working hard on his next project. Two years of work has resulted in his fourth LP, LOVE LIGHTS & GLITTERING PRIZES, consisting of 13 tracks including the singles “Darker Than Black”, “Gossip For Girls” and “Green Faced Politician”.
This record shows what has happened in my life during those two years. They reflect a range of subjects but the underlining theme to the album is light and darkness, black and white, two sides of the life cycle.
For this record, there was a range of wants to be met. For me, all the songs had to make use of sounds from all my keyboards, synths, MIDI and VSTs. Then my brother Scott was encouraged to plug in the electric guitar and provide simple rhythm lines and riffs.
The length of time taken to record was frustrating at times. I’ve been collecting many greatest hits/best of/collections albums over this time. While they were all inspiraing, this made finishing off the tracks difficult. At the end of it all, I wish to acknwoledge acts such as Simple Minds, Steve Winwood, Massive Attack to name a few that I’ve had such enjoyable listening to while recording my new record.
“Booze Cruise Blues” chronicles the many years of being with my dad during the booze cruise outings. This has taken me many attempts over the years to finalise and I’m thrilled that it’s included on this record. Scott has pushed himself with this track, providing magical jazzy solos on the guitar.“Heir And Spare” is a chance for me to escape into the music and grieve for the lose of two people in my life. I can always remember writing the lyrics to this track while returning from one of those funerals on a biting cold December day. Like nothing I’ve done before.“Big Picture” is the center of the album and acknowledges the album title, which is named after a song (Glittering Prize) by Simple Minds.“Harbour Lights” was named five years ago but had no music to it. When I went to West Bay in Dorset last year, I got reinspired and put music to it. This track is for all the people who live by the sea.
